Week 6 NFL Picks: Me vs. a Two Year Old

Posted by SuckaFish

Each week I’ll be picking games in a head-to-head competition with an intellectual equal, my two-year-old daughter. I put the logos of the two teams playing each other on the screen and she pointed to (this week there was a lot of “go away bird” or “go away man”) the team she prefers.

Two weeks ago I went 10-3 and she went 7-6. Last week it was 9-5 for me, 6-8 for her. Basically, she’s not very good at this and if it keeps up I’ll have to start picking against one of the dogs or something.

After four weeks of picks here are the records:
The Kid 34-25
SuckaFish 42-17

Game SuckaFish Two-Year-Old Daughter
Browns @ Steelers Steelers Browns

Not a Great Day for Redskin Families

Two rough stories today about Redskins and family members.

Sean Taylor’s mom is facing bankruptcy and may lose the house he bought for her. (Daily Finance)

Albert Haynesworth’s estranged wife wants some serious cash to pay bills. Oh, and a restraining order. (FanHouse)

TCU Rescinds Henson’s Degree

Posted by KilgoreTroutIII

BREAKING NEWS: TCU has rescinded the degree previously presented to Robert Henson, former All-MWC linebacker now on the Washington Redskins roster. The university cited Mr. Henson’s series of 52 Twitter postings following the Redskins’ “game” against the Rams Sunday as reported in this front page story in the Washington Post.

“TCU has been embarrassed too much by Mr. Henson’s behavior,” said Associate Chancellor Ben Downtoolong. “We can understand a lack of forethought by his tweeting disrespectfully to the fans who indirectly pay his salary — a salary which is already in excess of anyone on the TCU staff with the exception of the volleyball coach and all other coaches in our athletic department.

Jim Zorn Hates Redskins Legends

Posted by SuckaFish

In case you missed it, things are getting testy in Ashburn. Offensive coordinator Head coach Jim Zorn and legendary QB Sonny Jurgensen had a heated exchange about the coach’s decision to call a halfback option on third and goal against the Rams Sunday.

“Third down, I’m the quarterback, and you call the halfback throwing the ball for me, I’m calling timeout or calling an audible,” Jurgensen said. “I’m not letting the halfback throw it. That’s what you pay me for.”

“Well then, I would have to take you out of the game,” Zorn countered. “As soon as you called timeout, I’d say what’s wrong with my play, because….”

“It didn’t work!” Jurgensen interrupted.

There was a long pause.

“No, but I called it to work. Alright?” Zorn said. “We called it to work. It didn’t work. There were a lot of plays out there that didn’t work. And I’d take you out of the game. Sorry, Sonny.”

Zorn was asked about the play again during a press conference and calmed Skins fans with this reasoned response:

“I mean, if I could see it now, if I could see every play that was gonna fail before it failed, I’m with you. I wouldn’t call it.”

It’s been a tough week for Zorn who was questioned about his job security on his own radio show and today he said he would boo his team too. I wonder what Robert Henson will tweet about that!

Cowboys 2009 Week-by-Week Predictions

Posted by SuckaFish

Here are the official SuckaFish picks for the Cowboys season.

Date Opponent Pick
Sun, Sept 13 @ Tampa Bay Win
Sun, Sept 20 NY Giants Loss
Mon, Sept 28 Carolina Win
Sun, Oct 4 @ Denver Win
Sun, Oct 11 @ Kansas City Win
Sun, Oct 18 Bye I watch Red Zone Channel all day
Sun, Oct 25 Atlanta Loss
Sun, Nov 1 Seattle Win
Sun, Nov 8 @ Philadelphia Loss
Sun, Nov 15 @ Green Bay Loss
Sun, Nov 22 Washington Win
Thurs, Nov 26 Oakland Win
Sun, Dec 6 @ New York Giants Win
Sun, Dec 13 San Diego Win
Sat, Dec 19 @ New Orleans Loss
Sun, Dec 27 @ Washington Win
Sun, Jan 3 Philadelphia Win

So they end up 11-5. I don’t love every single pick (I feel like they could win the home opener against the Giants but then I’d have them going into the bye week 5-0) but that’s the record I thought they’d have. They are who I thought they were. Or who I hope they’ll be.

Hope This Kickoff Doesn’t Hit the Scoreboard

Posted by SuckaFish

Redskins fans hate the Cowboys. They hate their fans. They even hate the colors.

I’m a Cowboys fan and for most of my life I’ve lived in the DC area. This blog is part of the SWAGLESS network and in it I’ll give you news and opinions about both teams, the league in general, and the secret cabal of Dallas fans in the nation’s capital.

Oh, and if the league says you can’t hang a screen less than 85 feet above the field and you hang it 90 above the field, then you’re in the right.

If the league says they’ve created new rules for when punts hit the scoreboard and they’re the exact same rules they had a week ago, then Goodell is just covering his ass.

If Mike Florio says the league is buzzing over preferential treatment for the Cowboys but doesn’t name any of his sources, it’s because he hates the Cowboys and is once again putting his personal slant on an otherwise informative blog.
